Aston Martin hints Stroll REPLACEMENT verdict after… read more
Aston Martin is gearing up for a significant overhaul in the 2025 Formula 1 season, with the highly anticipated arrival of design guru Adrian Newey from Red Bull and a new team principal. The team is eager to bounce back from a dismal 2024 season, which saw them finish a disappointing fifth in the constructors’ championship without securing a single podium finish.
The contrast in performance between the team’s two drivers, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, was stark. Alonso, a two-time world champion, finished a respectable ninth in the drivers’ championship with 70 points, while Stroll, whose father Lawrence Stroll owns the team, managed only 24 points and finished 13th in the standings.
The team’s poor performance has raised questions about Stroll’s future with the team. Despite being on a rolling contract, many have suggested that his position may be under threat. However, the recent re-signing of reserve driver Felipe Drugovich has added a new twist to the situation.
Drugovich, the 2022 F2 champion, has been working with Aston Martin as their test and reserve driver since 2022 and will resume his role in 2025. Although he has made several appearances during practice sessions, he is yet to make his F1 grand prix debut.
A recent poll conducted by GPFans has delivered a resounding verdict on the future of Stroll and Drugovich. An overwhelming 98% of fans believe that Drugovich should be promoted to a full-time seat alongside Alonso, while a mere 2% think he should replace Alonso. Not a single fan voted for Drugovich to be denied a seat with the team altogether.
The poll results suggest that fans are eager to see Drugovich given a chance to prove himself in a full-time capacity. With Aston Martin’s restructure and Newey’s arrival, the team may be poised to make significant changes to their driver lineup. Only time will tell if Stroll’s position will be affected by the team’s new developments.
