Black Sabbath guitarist and founding member Tony Iommi has officially ruled out any future live shows for the legendary heavy metal band. In a recent interview, Iommi stated that there are no plans for the group to take the stage again, putting a definitive end to reunion rumors that have circulated since their farewell tour.
Formed in Birmingham in 1968, Black Sabbath played a pioneering role in shaping the sound of heavy metal. With their original lineup Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward the band achieved global fame and inspired countless musicians. Their final tour, The End, wrapped up in 2017 with an emotional farewell performance in their hometown, widely seen as their closing chapter.
Despite continued fan speculation about another reunion, Iommi confirmed that the final concert was truly their last. “That was the right way to finish it,” he said. “It felt complete. We didn’t want to overstay our welcome or drag things out unnecessarily.”
At 76, Iommi noted that age and health concerns are major reasons why the band won’t return to live performances. “Touring takes a lot of energy, and we’re just not in that place anymore. It’s better to remember Black Sabbath at its best,” he explained.
Although the members have occasionally collaborated on side projects or special releases, Iommi’s remarks make it clear that a full-scale reunion is off the table. Ozzy Osbourne’s own health challenges have also made the likelihood of any future shows even slimmer.
Fans can still enjoy remastered albums, unreleased material, and solo work from the band’s members. Iommi has expressed interest in continuing to create music on his own, keeping his creative spirit alive.
“We’ve done what we set out to do,” Iommi concluded. “There’s nothing left to prove. Black Sabbath had its moment and what a moment it was.”
With this confirmation, the band’s legacy is sealed, and while the live chapter has ended, their impact on rock and metal music will continue to endure for generations.
