Black Sabbath Guitarist Admits Pre-Farewell Show Nerves
Black Sabbath icon guitarist Tony Iommi has confessed to battling nerves in the buildup to the band’s highly touted farewell concert this weekend. The heavy metal pioneers are set to take the stage for the final time in Birmingham, the same city where their legendary career first began over half a century ago.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Iommi admitted that despite performing for millions of fans over the years, the emotions tied to this final performance have left him feeling uneasy. “It’s strange because you’d think after all these years I’d be used to it,” he said. “But knowing this is the last time we’ll ever play together, it really hits home. It’s nerve-racking.”
Black Sabbath, one of metal’s most legendary bands, first assembled in 1968 with a sound that changed a generation. After countless tours, albums, and lineupups, the original members reunited for a farewell world tour beginning in 2016. And now, after more than 50 years of music, they’re preparing to draw the curtain for the final time.
Iommi emphasized that while the group is going out on a high note, there is also a deep feeling of nostalgia. “This is where it all started for us,” he said. “It does feel like it’s full circle, but still, there’s that added pressure to make this a night that people will never forget.”
The fans are expected to pack out the Genting Arena in Birmingham to be part of the landmark occasion. Tickets were sold out in minutes, a testament to the band’s lasting legacy and the loyalty of their global fan base.
“It will be emotional,” Iommi concluded. “I’ll miss it more than I think — but I think we’re doing the right thing in ending it.”
