According to a report by Motorsport.com, the Spanish motorsport icon is “seriously considering” launching a campaign for the top job in world motorsport governance.
Carlos Sainz Sr, a two-time World Rally Champion and four-time Dakar Rally winner, has been one of the most respected and successful figures in rally history. He won the WRC drivers’ titles in 1990 and 1992 with Toyota, and has remained deeply involved in motorsport ever since. His extensive experience, broad popularity, and strong relationships throughout the motorsport world make him a compelling candidate should he decide to challenge Ben Sulayem, who has been in office since late 2021.
Sainz Sr’s potential candidacy comes at a time of change and shifting power dynamics within Formula 1 and the wider racing community.
