The FIA has issued a second penalty to Lewis Hamilton following a detailed post-race investigation at the Australian Grand Prix, compounding a frustrating weekend for the Mercedes driver.

This latest penalty comes on top of an earlier sanction he received during the race, with the governing body citing a separate breach of the regulations. According to the FIA, newly reviewed data revealed irregularities in Hamilton’s sector times and his behavior under yellow flag conditions, prompting further disciplinary action.

As a result, Hamilton’s final race position is now in jeopardy, and the additional penalty could have serious implications for his standing in the championship, as well as Mercedes’ ongoing battle in the Constructors’ race.

An FIA representative commented: “After a thorough review of new data and footage, a second violation involving Car #44 was identified. A further penalty has been enforced in line with the rules of the sport.”

The back-to-back penalties mark a significant setback for Hamilton, whose 2025 season has already been riddled with inconsistency. This development also raises renewed questions about Mercedes’ race management and Hamilton’s compliance under pressure.

More details regarding the nature and severity of the second penalty are expected to emerge later today.
