Franco Colapinto, a rising star in motorsport, made his debut in Formula 1 with Williams Racing during the 2024 season, replacing LoganFranco Colapinto Sargeant after the Dutch Grand Prix. Sargeant, who had failed to score any points in the first 15 rounds of the season, was replaced by Colapinto, who had been a standout driver in Formula 2. The decision by Williams team principal James Vowles to make the mid-season switch was aimed at improving the team’s chances of scoring points. Prior to Colapinto’s arrival, Williams had only earned four points in the Constructors’ Championship, with Alexander Albon carrying the team’s hopes.
Colapinto’s entry proved successful, as he quickly showed his potential. In his first few races, he accumulated five points, including an impressive eighth-place finish in Azerbaijan and an additional point at the US Grand Prix in Austin. In contrast, previous drivers Sargeant and Nicholas Latifi had only managed to secure a combined four points across seventy races. Despite a strong start, Colapinto wasn’t able to secure additional points by the end of the season, and Williams remained in ninth place in the standings.
For 2025, Colapinto’s future in F1 looks promising as he transitions to Alpine, where he will serve as one of their reserve drivers. His motorsport career has been filled with significant achievements. He dominated the 2019 Spanish F4 Championship, claiming 11 race wins, 13 podiums, and 10 pole positions, winning the title with a substantial 98-point lead. Colapinto then competed in the Toyota Racing Series in 2020, where he secured a race win and finished third overall in the championship.
Returning to Europe in 2020, Colapinto competed in the Formula Renault Eurocup, finishing third and emerging as the highest-ranked rookie. He continued his rise in 2021, securing two Grand Slams and finishing third in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, while also achieving notable results in the Asian and European Le Mans Series. In 2022, he took the step up to FIA Formula 3 with Van Amersfoort Racing, where he impressed by taking pole in his first F3 qualifying session, securing two race wins, and five podiums, cementing his reputation as a talented and promising driver for the future.
