The Austrian Grand Prix delivered high drama both on and off the track as McLaren driver Oscar Piastri launched a profanity-filled radio outburst, while Red Bull team principal Christian Horner did not hold back in his assessment of the situation.
Piastri, who was running in second place behind teammate Lando Norris, became enraged after a run-in with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto while attempting to lap him on Lap 54. The incident disrupted Piastri’s momentum and led to a furious message over team radio, in which he remarked, “Alpine still managed to find a way to [expletive] me over all these years later.”
The Australian driver’s remarks referenced his contentious exit from the Alpine driver academy prior to joining McLaren — a dispute that sparked legal battles and controversy across the paddock in 2022.
Meanwhile, Red Bull boss Christian Horner commented on Piastri’s driving, seemingly mocking the intensity of the intra-McLaren battle. “He’s basically glued to the rear of that car lap after lap… I don’t quite understand it,” Horner said, referring to Piastri’s ability to follow Norris closely without degrading his tyres.
