Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has shared a deeply emotional message following the death of a longtime friend, offering heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and reflecting on the bond they shared.
In a moving tribute posted to his social media, McBrain opened up about the pain of losing someone who had been part of his life for many years. Though he didn’t mention the name out of respect for the family’s privacy, it was clear the loss had hit him hard.
“I’m absolutely gutted,” McBrain wrote. “I lost a dear friend this week someone who’s been by my side through thick and thin. He wasn’t just a mate, he was like a brother to me. This one hurts.”
The drummer, known for his big personality and even bigger heart, continued with words of comfort for the family: “To his family my love is with you all. I can’t imagine the pain you’re going through. I want you to know I’m holding you close in my thoughts. He was one of the best, and I feel lucky to have known him.”
McBrain also shared a glimpse of the memories they created together: “We had laughs that could shake the walls, deep talks, quiet moments… he was always there. The kind of friend who didn’t need to say much to say everything. That kind of connection doesn’t come around often.”
Though he’s recently been facing his own challenges recovering from a stroke in 2023 and stepping back from touring McBrain’s message reminded fans of the kindness and gratitude that have always been a part of who he is.
“I’ll carry him with me forever,” he said. “Whether I’m behind the kit or sitting quietly at home, he’ll always be a part of me. Rest easy, my friend. You’ll always be in my heart.”
