Iron Maiden’s lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, has revealed he would reject an invitation to perform at Glastonbury Festival, even if the band were offered a slot. In a recent interview, Dickinson explained that the festival’s atmosphere and audience don’t reflect the spirit of Iron Maiden.
“Even if they did ask us, I’d say no,” Dickinson said. “Glastonbury isn’t our kind of crowd. It doesn’t represent what we’re about as a band.”
Known for his outspoken views, Dickinson’s statement reinforces the belief that Glastonbury, despite its wide range of performers, is still largely centered around pop, indie, and mainstream genres. Although heavy acts like Metallica have previously performed at the festival—making headlines with their 2014 headlining appearance—Dickinson remains skeptical of its compatibility with heavy metal.
He stressed the importance of playing to fans who truly understand and appreciate the music. According to him, Iron Maiden belongs on stages like Download Festival or Wacken Open Air, where the environment suits their powerful style and loyal fanbase. “Our music needs to be heard in places that welcome the energy and force behind it,” he said.
The reaction among fans has been mixed. Some praised Dickinson for staying true to the band’s heavy metal roots, while others were disappointed by the idea of missing a potential Glastonbury appearance from the iconic group.
