“It’s all noise” Hamilton responds to Speculation over relationship with Race Engineer Riccardo Adami
Seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton has downplayed rumors of tension between himself and his Ferrari race engineer, Riccardo Adami. The speculation surrounding their relationship has been circulating in the media, but Hamilton insists that it is nothing more than “just noise” that doesn’t affect their working relationship.
The rumors of tension between Hamilton and Adami gained momentum during the Miami Grand Prix in May, when Hamilton was heard expressing frustration over the team’s decision-making process regarding a potential swap with his teammate, Charles Leclerc. Hamilton’s sarcastic comment, “Have a tea break while you’re at it,” was picked up by the media, fueling speculation about a rift between him and Adami.
Further speculation arose during the Monaco Grand Prix, when Hamilton asked Adami over the radio, “Are you upset with me or something?” The fact that Adami seemingly didn’t respond to Hamilton’s question only added to the rumors of tension between the two.
However, when asked about his relationship with Adami during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton was quick to dismiss the speculation. “Our relationship is great,” he explained. “No problems. We’re constantly learning more and more about each other, we’re constantly adapting to the way both of us like to work.”
Hamilton acknowledged that Adami has worked with various drivers in the past and that they are still getting to know each other. “He’s worked with lots of different drivers before,” Hamilton said. “We don’t have any problems at all.” The British driver emphasized that their relationship is built on mutual respect and a shared goal of winning championships.
When pressed on whether the speculation about tension between him and Adami bothers him, Hamilton was dismissive. “There’s a lot of speculation,” he said. “I mean, most of it’s BS. Ultimately, we have a great relationship. He’s been amazing to work with, he’s a great guy, working so hard – we both are – and we don’t always get it right every weekend.”
Hamilton admitted that, like any relationship, they have disagreements, but they work through them together. “We’re both in it together, we both want to win a championship together, we’re both working towards lifting the team up,” he said.
In reference to the radio message in Monaco that sparked speculation about tension, Hamilton clarified that it was simply a result of radio problems during the race. “It was literally just there [were] areas that were… we just had radio problems through the race, [and I] didn’t get all the information that I wanted,” he explained.
