The FIA has officially confirmed the disqualification of Lando Norris from the Austrian Grand Prix, finalizing the race classification after a thorough post-race investigation. The McLaren driver, who initially crossed the finish line in first place, was found to be in violation of technical regulations, leading to the loss of his hard-earned victory.
According to the FIA’s statement, Norris’ car failed to comply with Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations due to excessive wear on the plank — a breach that automatically results in exclusion from the race results. This regulation is designed to ensure all cars maintain a minimum ride height for safety and fairness.
“Following a detailed inspection, Car #4 was found to be in breach of technical specifications regarding the plank wear limit. As a result, Lando Norris is disqualified from the Austrian Grand Prix, and the final classification has been updated accordingly,” the FIA confirmed.
The decision promotes the original second-place finisher to race winner, while Norris is stripped of both his race victory and the crucial championship points that came with it.
