F1 2025 Final Standings: Lando Norris Ends Verstappen’s Reign as McLaren Dominate the Season
The curtain has finally fallen on the 2025 Formula 1 season, marking the end of a dramatic, high-intensity championship year that will be remembered for its unpredictability, fierce rivalries, and major shifts in the sport’s competitive order. After 75 seasons of Formula 1 history, this year stands out as the season that finally broke Max Verstappen’s long-running dominance, with Lando Norris rising to claim his first world championship title.
At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race on the calendar, all the pressure fell on Norris. The British driver entered the season-ending event knowing that only a podium finish would secure him the championship ahead of Verstappen, who was still mathematically in contention. Norris delivered under immense pressure, securing third place—exactly what he needed. Although Verstappen won the race, the Red Bull star still fell short by just two points, leaving Norris to lift the coveted 2025 Drivers’ Championship trophy.
A Tight Battle at the Top
Norris’ title victory capped off a remarkable season for McLaren, who were consistently strong across most circuits. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, also played a key role in the team’s resurgence. Piastri finished third in the final standings, forming part of a fierce three-way championship battle that kept fans on edge from the opening race to the finale. Verstappen secured second place in the standings, narrowly beating Piastri thanks to his win in Abu Dhabi, but the Red Bull driver ultimately could not overturn Norris’ overall season advantage.
This year marked a noticeable shift in Red Bull’s competitive strength. While Verstappen remained a top-tier performer, Red Bull struggled to match McLaren’s pace and development speed. The imbalance within the Red Bull garage also did the team no favours—Yuki Tsunoda had one of the toughest seasons of his career. While Verstappen fought at the front, Tsunoda slipped far behind, finishing in 17th place, even below both Racing Bulls drivers, Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson. The gap highlighted just how heavily Red Bull relied on Verstappen throughout the season.
McLaren Seal Dominance With Constructors’ Title
McLaren’s outstanding performance this season was further cemented by their crushing victory in the Constructors’ Championship. The team wrapped up the title early—back in Singapore—showing just how superior they had been across the 2025 campaign. They ended the season with 833 points, placing them an astonishing 364 points ahead of Mercedes, who secured second place.
Red Bull finished third in the constructors’ standings with 451 points, while Ferrari endured another season of disappointment, finishing fourth despite flashes of brilliance from Charles Leclerc. Ferrari struggled with consistency, tyre degradation issues, and occasional strategic mishaps, preventing them from mounting a serious challenge at any point.
Midfield Battles: Williams Shine, Alpine Struggle
Beyond the title fight, the midfield produced some of the most intense racing of the season. Williams emerged as one of the standout teams, finishing fifth with 137 points. Their revival was driven by strong showings from Carlos Sainz, who delivered two podium finishes, and Alex Albon, who consistently scored points in the opening half of the season.
Aston Martin, Haas, and Kick Sauber engaged in tight battles throughout the year but ultimately finished sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively in the constructors’ table. Each team had moments of promise but lacked the overall pace to consistently challenge for top-five positions.
Alpine, however, suffered the worst fate. With only 22 points across the entire season, they finished at the bottom of the constructors’ standings. Drivers Pierre Gasly, Franco Colapinto, and Jack Doohan struggled in an underperforming car, and Colapinto ended the campaign as the only full-time driver without a single point.
Hamilton Beats Rookie Antonelli in Personal Battle
Another noteworthy storyline involved Lewis Hamilton, who, despite failing to secure a single podium all year, finished sixth in the Drivers’ Championship. His experience allowed him to stay ahead of his young Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli, who ended the season in seventh. Hamilton’s consistency, even in a difficult Ferrari car, was one of the few bright spots in the team’s turbulent year.
