The four-time Formula 1 world champion had appeared to enjoy a perfect outing at the legendary Nordschleife circuit, delivering a commanding performance behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3. Competing with the Winward Racing squad, Verstappen teamed up with Dani Juncadella and Jules Gounon to secure what initially looked like an impressive and well-earned victory. The result marked another example of Verstappen’s adaptability outside Formula 1, as he continues to broaden his experience in endurance racing.
The Dutch driver had temporarily stepped away from his usual duties with Red Bull Racing to participate in the event, instead piloting a Mercedes-AMG machine in preparation for a planned entry into the prestigious Nürburgring 24 Hours later this year. The outing was intended to help him gain valuable mileage and familiarity with the unique challenges of the Nordschleife, often referred to as the “Green Hell” due to its demanding layout and unpredictable conditions.

Hohenadel expressed regret to fans who had supported the team during the event, particularly given the significance of their debut as a full Mercedes-AMG Performance Team at the Nordschleife. He also stressed that the incident would serve as a learning experience, with the team planning to carefully review their procedures to prevent similar issues in the future.
