Verstappen Faces Possible FIA Fine After Heated Outburst at Canadian GP
Max Verstappen could be facing fresh disciplinary action from the FIA following an angry exchange during his post-qualifying press conference at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver, who will start on the front row beside George Russell, lost his temper when asked about his growing penalty points tally and the looming risk of a race ban.
Just two weeks after a controversial clash with Russell in Spain pushed Verstappen to 11 penalty points—one short of the limit that would result in a suspension—questions naturally turned to the possibility of more drama into Turn 1 on race day.
Verstappen, clearly irritated by the focus on his penalty situation, snapped back at the press:
“It’s really pissing me off, to be honest.”
That comment, though offhand, may have consequences. The FIA enforces rules around appropriate conduct and language in formal settings, including media briefings. If the stewards deem Verstappen’s language a violation of those guidelines, he could face a €5,000 fine.
So far, the FIA hasn’t issued an official statement, but Verstappen’s remarks are expected to be reviewed under their controlled environment protocols.
