FIA Honors Outstanding Volunteers and Officials at 2024 Awards Ceremony. Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has announced the winners of the 2024 FIA Awards for Volunteers and Officials, recognizing the tireless efforts of individuals who work behind the scenes to make motor sport events possible. These unsung heroes have demonstrated exceptional dedication, passion, and commitment to the sport, and their contributions have not gone unnoticed.
One of the award winners is Ria Westerhuis, a dedicated official from the Netherlands with a career spanning over 40 years. Her leadership and commitment have been instrumental in the success of numerous events, including the Dutch Motor Racing Championship and the Historic Grand Prix. Westerhuis has held various positions within the Royal Dutch Motor Sport Federation (KNAF) and has been the permanent race secretary for Circuit Zandvoort since 1978.
Another winner is Carol Armstrong, an Australian marshal who has volunteered at international events for over 10 years. Armstrong has officiated at 39 Formula 1 Australian Grands Prix and has participated in numerous international events, including Moto GP and rally events. Her experience and expertise have made her a valuable asset to the motor sport community, and she is always willing to mentor and train new marshals.
Péter Faluvégi, a Hungarian official, has been recognized for his decades-long commitment to motor sport. Faluvégi has held various positions, including Clerk of the Course of the FIA Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix and steward at national and international competitions. He has also been instrumental in the development of Hungarian motor sport, serving as a member of the ASN’s Sports Council, Safety Committee, and Stewards Committee.
Andrew, a British scrutineer, has been honored for his dedication to the role over the past 24 years. He has volunteered at numerous rallies and events, including the British Rally Championship, and has demonstrated exceptional leadership and calmness in the face of an emergency.
Neil Williams, a Jamaican timekeeper, has been recognized for his professionalism and integrity over the past 20 years. Williams has officiated at all Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) events and has expanded his role to include circuit racing events for the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC).
Finally, the team of officials from the Circuit Ricardo Tormo has been honored for their exceptional contributions to motor sport. This team has been instrumental in organizing and managing various high-profile events in Spain, including the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games.
