Max Verstappen’s Father, Jos, Thinks Rallying Could be a Future Option for His Son
Jos Verstappen, the father of reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, has revealed that he believes rallying could be a potential career path for his son once he decides to hang up his F1 helmet. While Max has not yet expressed any interest in pursuing a career in rallying, Jos is confident that if he were to give it a try, he would be hooked.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Jos discussed the possibility of Max following in his footsteps and taking up rallying. “Whether such a rally is something for Max? No, not at the moment,” he said. “I don’t think he’s interested right now either. But I am sure that if he is going to do this, he will be sold.”
Jos, who himself retired from F1 racing in 2003 to focus on raising Max, has recently rediscovered his passion for motorsport through rallying. He has been competing in various rally events and has found a new sense of excitement and challenge in the sport.
“You have a test each time and then you have to recharge,” Jos explained. “This way, I have an adrenaline rush 12 times in one day. In Formula 1, you only have that once actually, right before the start. That’s what makes this so beautiful.”
Jos’s own experiences in rallying have given him a newfound appreciation for the sport, and he believes that Max would also enjoy the challenge and thrill of competing in rally events. However, for now, Max remains focused on his F1 career, and Jos is happy to support him in his endeavors.
As Jos continues to compete in rallying, he has found that his ability to compete at a high level has made him take the sport more seriously. What was once a hobby has now become a full-time job, with Jos setting his sights on winning the championship.
“Yes, it’s going well,” Jos said, reflecting on his rallying career. “Of course, I only started a few years ago and didn’t expect to be able to compete at the front so quickly.” He added, “If I had still been driving around fifth, sixth place now, I would have kept on hobbying. But this year it’s more than a hobby. The goal is to win this championship.”
While Max Verstappen’s future plans remain uncertain, one thing is clear: his father, Jos, is enjoying his own adventures in rallying and believes that the sport could be a great fit for his son once he decides to move on from F1.
