Piastri signs new long term McLaren F1 deal
McLaren Formula 1 team has secured the long-term future of its talented young driver, Oscar Piastri, with a new multi-year contract extension. Piastri, who is just 23 years old, has made a significant impact on the Formula 1 scene since joining McLaren in 2022. After being poached from Alpine’s junior program, the former F2 and F3 champion impressed on his McLaren F1 debut in 2023 and went on to secure his first two grand prix wins during his sophomore campaign last year. Piastri’s performances earned him a fourth-place finish in the drivers’ championship, a remarkable achievement for a driver still in the early stages of his career.

“Not only is he an incredibly talented driver, but his work ethic and cultural fit within the team made it a no-brainer to extend his time in papaya,” Brown said. “We’ve got the best driver line-up on the grid, and in the past two seasons, we’ve seen how much of an asset to the team Oscar is both on and off track. He was absolutely fundamental in adding to our legacy with the 2024 constructors’ championship last season.”
Piastri himself expressed his delight at signing the new contract, stating that it was a “great feeling” to know that he was part of McLaren’s long-term vision. “The team had the belief in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we’ve gone on over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the very top of the sport has been incredible,” he said.
With Piastri’s future now secure, McLaren can focus on building on its recent success, including its constructors’ championship win last season. The team’s driver lineup, which also includes Lando Norris, is widely regarded as one of the strongest on the grid, and McLaren will be hoping to challenge for more titles in the seasons to come.
