The highly anticipated Formula 1 2025 pre-season testing in Bahrain has come to a close, with all 10 teams putting their 2025 challengers through their paces across the three-day test. Sky Sports F1’s Ted Kravitz has now revealed his post-testing pecking order, providing a comprehensive analysis of each team’s performance.
According to Kravitz, McLaren emerges as the clear front-runner, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri showing impressive pace throughout the test. “If the Bahrain Grand Prix happened tomorrow, it would probably be a McLaren one-two,” Kravitz stated. The consensus among teams and pundits is that McLaren has a significant advantage, with an estimated two-tenths of a second per lap over the rest of the field.
Ferrari and Mercedes are closely matched, with Kravitz ranking them second and third, respectively. Red Bull, despite showing promising pace, falls behind the Italian and German giants. “You could throw a dustsheet over Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, and Mercedes, and the best of Ferrari, when they’re getting it right,” Kravitz noted.
The battle for supremacy between Ferrari and Mercedes is expected to be intense, with Mercedes believing that Ferrari is “exactly with them, and not even a tenth between them.” However, Kravitz cautions that Max Verstappen’s exceptional driving skills could potentially bridge the gap between Red Bull and the top two teams.
Williams and Alpine occupy fifth and sixth places, respectively, with Kravitz praising the solid performance of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon in the Williams. Haas, despite facing uncertainty regarding their qualifying pace, is ranked seventh, with Kravitz highlighting the team’s impressive pace in testing.
Aston Martin, struggling with a difficult final day of testing, falls to eighth, with Racing Bulls and Sauber rounding out the bottom two spots. Sauber, in particular, faces an uphill battle, with Kravitz noting that the team’s car lacks balance and is unlikely to score points regularly.
The Formula 1 2025 season is set to kick off on March 14-16 at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, marking the first time since 2019 that the season-opener will be held in Australia. With 24 events on the calendar, the season promises to be an exciting and closely contested one.
