Ollie Bearman in Ongoing Talks with Ferrari Amid Lewis Hamilton Replacement Speculation
Young British Formula 1 driver Oliver Bearman has confirmed he remains in regular contact with Scuderia Ferrari as speculation grows that he could eventually replace seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at the iconic Italian team in the future.
The 20-year-old racer from Chelmsford, Essex, has been closely linked with Ferrari for several years and is widely viewed as one of the most promising talents in the sport. While nothing has been officially decided about Ferrari’s long-term driver line-up, Bearman acknowledged that discussions with the Maranello outfit are ongoing as he continues his development in Formula 1.
Bearman first made headlines when he stepped in for Carlos Sainz Jr. during the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The unexpected opportunity came when Sainz was ruled out of the race due to illness, forcing Ferrari to turn to their young academy driver at short notice. Despite the pressure of making his Formula 1 debut for one of the sport’s biggest teams, Bearman impressed by finishing seventh, immediately attracting attention from fans and paddock insiders alike.
Since joining the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2022, Bearman has steadily climbed through the ranks and built a reputation for both speed and maturity behind the wheel. His progress became even more evident during the 2025 Formula 1 season, where he delivered several strong performances and secured his best result so far with a superb fourth-place finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Now preparing for the opening race of the 2026 Formula 1 season at the Australian Grand Prix, Bearman remains focused on continuing his growth with Haas F1 Team while maintaining close ties with Ferrari.
Speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Bearman explained that communication between himself and Ferrari has remained strong and transparent throughout his time racing with Haas.
According to the young Briton, those discussions have been important not only for keeping Ferrari updated on his progress but also for explaining some of the challenges he has faced while competing with a smaller team.
Bearman pointed out that the experience of driving for Ferrari during his debut race highlighted just how different the environment is compared with Haas. Ferrari, as one of the most successful and well-resourced teams in Formula 1 history, operates on a far larger scale with extensive support structures for its drivers.
At Haas, however, Bearman has had to adapt to a more compact organisation where drivers often carry a greater responsibility in helping the team improve performance.
The young driver admitted that moving from Ferrari’s highly developed environment to Haas required him to learn quickly and adjust his expectations. As a rookie, he felt that much of his development has happened while racing and gaining experience week by week.
Because of this, Bearman felt it was important to make Ferrari aware that race results alone do not always reflect the full story of his performances.
By staying open about the difficulties he encountered with Haas, Bearman believes Ferrari can better understand his progress and judge his potential more accurately.
At the same time, Ferrari continues to provide feedback about areas where they want him to improve. Bearman revealed that the team regularly outlines the aspects of his driving they would like to see refined, although the core message remains simple: keep getting faster every race weekend.
While Bearman remains realistic about his current position, he has never hidden his ambition to one day return to Ferrari as a full-time driver.
The Briton admitted that wearing Ferrari red again is a long-standing dream. Having been supported by the Italian team from an early stage in his career, he feels a strong sense of loyalty toward the organisation that helped shape his path to Formula 1.
Ferrari first signed Bearman when he was still competing in junior categories, recognising his potential while he was racing in Formula 4. Since then, the team has invested considerable resources into his development, helping him progress through the junior ranks and eventually reach the pinnacle of motorsport.
Because of that history, Bearman hopes to repay their faith by eventually securing a permanent seat with the team.
Nevertheless, he emphasised that his immediate focus is on the opportunities ahead with Haas. The 2026 season introduces a new set of technical regulations across Formula 1, and Bearman believes the changes could provide Haas with a chance to close the gap to the front of the grid.
He sees the upcoming campaign as a valuable opportunity to prove himself further, demonstrate consistent improvement, and strengthen his case for a future with Ferrari.
Meanwhile, Ferrari’s current driver situation continues to attract attention. Hamilton’s first season with the Scuderia has reportedly been challenging, and although his contract is believed to run until 2027, speculation about Ferrari’s long-term plans has not slowed down.
For many observers, Bearman represents a natural successor should Ferrari eventually look to bring in a younger driver to lead the team into the next era of Formula 1.
For now, however, the young Brit is concentrating on delivering strong performances on track while keeping the dream of one day returning to Ferrari very much alive.
