The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked the end of an era for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari, as he took to the track for the final time in red. With his departure, Sainz will join Williams Racing, paving the way for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to take the reins at Ferrari. When asked if he had any words of wisdom to impart to his incoming successor, Sainz humbly acknowledged that Hamilton, with his vast experience and accolades, hardly requires his advice.
When queried about offering advice to Lewis Hamilton as he prepares to join Ferrari, Carlos Sainz responded with humility. “Honestly, I don’t think a seven-time world champion who has navigated team changes in the past requires my guidance,” he stated.
Sainz instead chose to highlight the unique experience that awaits Hamilton at Ferrari. “It’s an extraordinary place to be a part of, and an incredible place to drive and feel like a true Formula One driver,” he explained.
The Spaniard, who will be joining Williams Racing, expressed his confidence that Hamilton will be warmly received by the Tifosi and the entire Ferrari team. “I believe he’ll receive incredible treatment and support from everyone involved, and he’ll undoubtedly enjoy the experience,” Sainz concluded. “There’s nothing quite like being a Ferrari Formula One driver, and I’m sure he’ll relish every moment of it.”
Although Carlos Sainz won’t officially join James Vowles’s team until the 2025 season, Ferrari afforded him the opportunity to get a head start. Sainz participated in a filming day with his new team on Monday, followed by the Pirelli Tyre Test on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi.
