Williams F1 Team Announces Reunion
The Williams F1 team is set to reunite with Japanese manufacturer Honda at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 13. This highly anticipated event will showcase a range of iconic cars from motorsport history, including the legendary Williams FW11, which was driven by F1 champion Nigel Mansell during the 1986 season.
Mansell, who narrowly missed out on the F1 title that year due to a tyre blowout in the final race, will have the opportunity to get back behind the wheel of the FW11 for the first time since 1986. This will be made possible by Williams’ successful restoration of the car, which marks the first collaboration between Williams and Honda since the 1980s.
According to Williams team principal James Vowles, “It’s an incredible privilege to celebrate Williams’ rich history at Goodwood, showcasing two of the team’s most iconic cars. The restored FW11 represents a historic collaboration between Atlassian Williams Racing and Honda Motor Co., Ltd, a partnership that defined an era of engineering excellence and championship success.”
In addition to the FW11, the event will also feature the legendary FW14B, another iconic car from Williams’ illustrious history. The presence of these two cars together at Goodwood serves as a powerful reminder of the team’s rich racing legacy and the heritage and innovation that continue to inspire the team today.
Mansell will not be the only driver to have the opportunity to drive the FW11 at Goodwood. Williams F1 race winners Thierry Boutsen and Riccardo Patrese will also take turns behind the wheel, as will former F1 driver Karun Chandhok.
