All 10 Formula 1 teams will face a mandatory tyre limit during the pre-season testing in Bahrain this week. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see their favorite drivers behind the wheel of their 2025 cars when testing begins on Wednesday morning, after having caught a glimpse of the new liveries at the F175 launch event last week. On Tuesday, teams conducted shakedown runs using older specification tyres to identify and address any potential issues before the full-scale testing starts.
Max Verstappen is one of the drivers hoping to see improvements in his car, after ending last season behind Ferrari and McLaren in terms of raw pace. The upcoming tests will offer an opportunity for teams to evaluate their performance with the new cars.
As for the tyres to be used during testing, Pirelli’s 2025 tyres will be fitted to all cars on Wednesday. Each team is allowed to bring a total of 35 sets of tyres, but they can only use a maximum of 30 during the three-day event. Most teams have chosen a higher number of the C3 medium compound, with some variations. Williams and Aston Martin, however, have opted for more of the harder C2 and C1 compounds, respectively.
Ferrari and Williams are the only two teams that have selected a set of each tyre compound, ranging from C1 to the new C6 compound, the softest option available. Mercedes, on the other hand, have allocated 27 of their 35 sets to the medium C3 compound. To prepare for any unforeseen weather changes, Aston Martin has brought three sets of intermediate tyres, while Haas has included one set of intermediate and one set of wet tyres. These decisions reflect the teams’ strategies to adapt to varying track conditions, though the likelihood of rain during the tests is minimal.
