Aston Martin sale confirmed as Stroll issues….read more

Aston Martin has confirmed it will sell its minority stake in the Aston Martin Formula 1 team as part of efforts to improve its financial position. The £74 million stake will be sold to the current ownership group led by billionaire Lawrence Stroll, who is also committing an additional £52.5 million on top of the sale. Despite the change in ownership, the F1 team will retain the Aston Martin name, with a long-term sponsorship deal in place that remains unaffected by the sale.

The move signals a significant step for Stroll and his investment consortium, Yew Tree, which has invested around £600 million into the team since its inception. The team emerged from the remains of the Racing Point squad in 2020, a rebranding effort following Stroll’s acquisition of the Force India team’s assets in 2018. Aston Martin’s commitment to Formula 1, however, remains strong despite the sale, with the iconic British car manufacturer’s racing green colors and its brand continuing in the sport for the long term.

This sale comes at a challenging time for the team, which is currently sitting seventh in the Formula 1 standings after the first two races of the 2025 season. With a lean year expected, the focus is on preparing for next year’s major regulatory changes in the sport. The team has struggled so far, with Lance Stroll, Lawrence’s son, being the only driver to score points for the team this season, having accumulated all ten of their points. Meanwhile, veteran driver Fernando Alonso has yet to finish a race, leaving the team facing an uphill battle.

In an official statement, Lawrence Stroll emphasized that these changes ensure the team’s continued presence in Formula 1. He said, “These moves demonstrate that Aston Martin’s place on the Formula 1 grid is as secure as ever. Aston Martin Lagonda has recently re-committed to its long-term sponsorship and licensing agreement with Aston Martin F1, confirming that the legendary Aston Martin brand and its British racing green colours will compete in Formula 1 for decades to come.”

This latest investment in the team reflects Stroll’s long-term vision for Aston Martin’s Formula 1 presence, as he continues to strengthen his position within the sport. Despite the challenging start to the 2025 season, with the team looking ahead to a major technical overhaul, the focus remains on ensuring Aston Martin remains a strong competitor in the world of F1 for years to come.

Since Stroll’s takeover in 2018, the team has undergone several transformations, from the original Force India outfit to Racing Point, and eventually to its current identity as Aston Martin. The latest financial moves indicate that the team is committed to building upon its existing foundation and preparing for future success, even amid challenges in the current competitive l
