The FIA has officially announced the results of technical inspections conducted on McLaren and Ferrari Formula 1 cars following the recent Miami Grand Prix. With the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola approaching, this scrutiny came as part of the FIA’s routine random checks to ensure compliance with the sport’s regulations.
The inspections followed a dramatic race weekend in Miami, where McLaren’s Oscar Piastri secured an impressive victory. The Australian driver extended his lead in the drivers’ championship with the win, marking another milestone in a breakthrough season. After the race, Piastri’s McLaren and Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari were randomly selected by the FIA for detailed post-race examinations.
According to the FIA’s statement, specific components of both vehicles were subjected to inspection. For McLaren, officials focused on the wheel bodywork assemblies. The governing body confirmed that all checked parts of the car adhered fully to the 2025 Formula 1 Technical Regulations. This clearance ensures Piastri’s win remains undisputed and his points tally intact.
As for Ferrari, Leclerc’s car underwent inspection of its steering wheel assembly, clutch operating mechanism, and related electronic systems. Again, the FIA confirmed that all examined parts met regulatory standards. This was a relief for both Leclerc and the Ferrari team, especially in light of earlier setbacks this season.
Leclerc had previously faced disqualification at the Chinese Grand Prix due to his car being found underweight during a similar post-race inspection. That outcome dealt a heavy blow to his championship hopes. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, also suffered a disqualification in the same race after excessive wear was detected on the skid block of his car, adding to the team’s frustrations.
These recent inspections come at a time when Ferrari is under pressure to close the gap to McLaren, who have taken a commanding lead in both championships. While Ferrari began the season with aspirations of challenging for both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles, they have struggled to consistently match McLaren’s pace and reliability.
After just six rounds of the 2025 season, McLaren holds a significant 152-point lead in the constructors’ standings. With such a gap already established, Ferrari’s hopes of regaining ground in the championship appear increasingly unlikely unless they can deliver consistent podium finishes and capitalize on any errors from their rivals.
