After Liam Lawson was demoted, Yuki Tsunoda of Japan was promoted to the renowned F1 Red Bull squad to drive alongside world champion Max Verstappen.
Just two race weekends into the Formula One season, Red Bull Racing confirms that Yuki Tsunoda has replaced Liam Lawson, ending days of speculation.
According to a statement released by Red Bull on Thursday, Tsunoda will replace the struggling New Zealander at his home Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka next week.
The 24-year-old Tsunoda joins four-time world champion Max Verstappen after rising from the RB squad. Lawson, who played RB the previous season, will return to that position.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner stated: “We have decided to swap Liam early because it has been hard to watch him struggle with the RB21 at the first two races.
“This is a purely sporting decision, and we entered the 2025 season with two goals: to win the World Constructors’ title again and to keep the World Drivers’ Championship.”
After being selected from running back in the winter to take Sergio Perez’s position, Lawson, 23, has had a terrible start to the 2025 campaign.
