Lewis Hamilton has delivered a blunt yet honest message to Ferrari supporters ahead of this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix. After a rocky start to his debut season with the Italian team, the seven-time world champion has collected only 15 points from the first three races.
Ferrari’s campaign hit a low point at the Chinese Grand Prix, where both Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc were disqualified for separate infractions. Although the team showed some signs of recovery in Japan—with Leclerc finishing fourth and Hamilton taking seventh—it’s still been a lackluster beginning for the Scuderia.
Now heading into round four of the season, Hamilton is urging fans to manage expectations. In an interview with ESPN before Friday’s practice, the British driver was asked if supporters should anticipate a strong showing in Bahrain. His reply was candid: “Don’t. Simple as that. Don’t wait for anything. Just watch and enjoy. We’re working as hard as we can, and that’s all I can say. I have nothing else to add to that.”
Ferrari’s struggles extend beyond Hamilton. Leclerc has scored just 20 points so far, leaving the team already trailing early leaders McLaren by over 70 points in the Constructors’ Championship.
After the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, Hamilton expressed concern over performance disparities between his side of the garage and Leclerc’s, calling his team’s efforts underperforming Despite that, he remains hopeful that things may improve this weekend.
Hamilton shared a glimpse of optimism, revealing that Ferrari will debut a new floor on his car in Bahrain. “I can’t go into too much detail, but we’ve got a new floor this weekend, and I’m excited about that,” he said. “The team’s worked incredibly hard to bring these upgrades. Being back at a track we’ve tested on, with more data and understanding, gives me a positive feeling going into the race.”
When asked what makes him so optimistic, he explained: “We’ve already run the car here during testing, we’ve tried certain setups, so we arrive with a clearer understanding of what works. It gives us a head start.”
As Ferrari hopes to find momentum, Hamilton’s honesty and cautious optimism reflect a team still finding its footing in the 2025 season.
