Marc Marquez Takes Fourth Consecutive Sprint Win at….
Marc Marquez continued his dominant form in the 2025 MotoGP season by claiming his fourth straight sprint race victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, taking back the lead in the world championship standings from his brother, Alex Marquez.
Starting from pole position, Marc led every lap of the sprint, although his lead wasn’t entirely uncontested. Alex briefly got ahead of his older brother at the start of the second lap with a move into Turn 1, but he ran wide, allowing Marc to reclaim the top spot. Despite continued pressure from Alex over the next few laps, Marc managed to build enough of a pace advantage to comfortably secure the win. Alex finished second yet again, and now trails Marc by just two points in the championship standings.
Franco Morbidelli rounded out the podium for the VR46 Ducati team, putting in a solid performance after taking third place early in the race. He overtook Fabio Quartararo on the main straight after the first lap and maintained control of the position for most of the race. However, a late-race charge from Quartararo and MotoGP rookie Fermin Aldeguer made for a tense final lap.
Aldeguer, gaining speed with every lap, pressured both Quartararo and Morbidelli. Quartararo’s challenge faded after he ran wide at the final corner, allowing Aldeguer to snatch fourth place – a career-best finish for the impressive Spanish rookie. Quartararo had to settle for fifth, ahead of VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio, who recovered from a poor start to climb back through the field.
Several riders who opted for the soft rear tyre struggled as the race went on. Among them were Maverick Vinales (Tech 3 KTM), Johann Zarco (LCR Honda), and Pedro Acosta (KTM), all of whom lost ground steadily, contributing to an action-packed midfield battle.
Benefiting from their drop-offs was Ai Ogura, who finished seventh for Trackhouse Aprilia. He ended up five seconds behind di Giannantonio but managed a consistent race without major drama.
Francesco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez’s team-mate, endured a disappointing day after crashing in qualifying and starting 11th. He made little progress and only gained places due to others’ misfortunes.
Jorge Martin, returning from injury after missing the first three rounds, showed promise early on by rising to 11th ahead of Bagnaia. However, his lack of fitness caught up with him as the race progressed, and he dropped down to finish 16th. Meanwhile, Honda’s Joan Mir didn’t start the sprint, pulling out due to illness and casting doubt on his participation in Sunday’s main race.
With Sunday’s full-length Grand Prix looming, Marc Marquez holds the momentum – but the competition remains tight.
