Lando Norris secured pole position for the Australian Grand Prix, edging out his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who also qualified on the front row. Despite a shaky start in the final qualifying session, both McLaren drivers delivered strong laps in the final moments, with Norris setting a time of 1:15.096 to surpass Piastri by 0.084 seconds.
Max Verstappen, aiming for a fifth consecutive drivers’ title, recovered from a difficult Friday to take third for Red Bull, nearly four-tenths behind Norris. Mercedes’ George Russell qualified fourth, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton struggled, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Hamilton, in his first race for Ferrari, was almost nine-tenths off Norris’ pole time and two-tenths behind Leclerc. A surprise third row featured Racing Bulls’ Yuki Tsunoda and Williams’ Alex Albon, who both impressed in the final moments.
In the lower ranks, rookies Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Liam Lawson, and Oliver Bearman faced difficulties, with Antonelli and Lawson failing to make it out of Q1.
The Australian GP promises to be thrilling, with rain in the forecast potentially shaking up the race. The event will be broadcast live on Sky Sports F1 starting at 4 am on Sunday.
