Red Bull confirm Max Verstappen replacement following D…read more

Max Verstappen, the current Formula 1 World Champion, has recently been the topic of speculation regarding a potential move to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), the popular German touring car racing series. Thierry Vermeulen, a close associate of Verstappen and a fellow racing driver who competes in the DTM himself, has addressed the growing chatter about whether Verstappen might consider transitioning from Formula 1 to the DTM in the near future.

Vermeulen, who shares a strong professional and personal bond with Verstappen, offered insights into Verstappen’s racing ambitions and current mindset. According to Vermeulen, while Verstappen is undoubtedly interested in a wide range of motorsport disciplines, his passion and primary focus remain firmly rooted in Formula 1. The reigning champion is currently enjoying significant success in the pinnacle of motorsport, and his competitive spirit continues to thrive in the high-stakes environment of F1.

Vermeulen pointed out that Verstappen is someone who lives and breathes racing, often exploring different racing formats during his downtime. From sim racing to endurance racing discussions, Verstappen maintains a broad interest in motorsport beyond F1. Despite this, Vermeulen emphasized that any move to a different category, such as the DTM, is not on Verstappen’s immediate radar. While the idea might not be completely out of the question in the distant future, there is no indication that Verstappen is planning to make such a switch anytime soon.

Furthermore, Vermeulen acknowledged that Verstappen’s personality and skill set could translate well into other racing formats, including touring cars. However, given his current dominance in Formula 1, coupled with ongoing team commitments and the competitive drive to continue winning at the highest level, it is highly unlikely that he would step away from F1 while still at his peak. Vermeulen also noted that Verstappen remains deeply loyal to his current team and has expressed a strong desire to continue pursuing more titles.

In summary, while the DTM could one day see Verstappen take part, either as a one-off entry or later in his career, it is not something being actively pursued at this stage. Vermeulen’s comments have provided clarity for fans and motorsport observers, reaffirming that Verstappen remains fully committed to his Formula 1 journey for the foreseeable future. The possibility of exploring new motorsport challenges remains open, but only when the time is right and when Verstappen himself feels ready for a change.
