Jean Alesi, the former Ferrari driver, believes that a championship win with the Scuderia would cement Lewis Hamilton’s legacy as a “hero forever.” Hamilton, who spent most of his Formula 1 career with McLaren and Mercedes, shocked the motorsport world by joining Ferrari a year ago, following a challenging period at Mercedes. After his time with the Silver Arrows ended, the British driver made the bold move to the legendary Italian team.

Next week, Hamilton will take his first steps in this new chapter, debuting behind the wheel of a Ferrari at Fiorano, followed by private testing sessions in Barcelona. For Alesi, a lifelong Ferrari fan who raced for the team between 1991 and 1995, the prospect of Hamilton driving for Ferrari is an exciting one.

While Alesi is a staunch supporter of Ferrari, he also recognizes the importance of seeing other historic teams like McLaren return to the top in Formula 1. “All those historic teams deserve to be back at the top,” Alesi said.

Ferrari has come close to winning the World Championship over the past 15 years, with both Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel narrowly missing out. However, with Frédéric Vasseur now leading the team, Ferrari seems better positioned to challenge for the top honors again. Hamilton’s ambition with Ferrari is not just to win another title, but to secure an eighth world championship, which would break Michael Schumacher’s long-standing record. Achieving this would solidify Hamilton’s place among the greatest sports legends of all time.

Alesi, however, suggests that a victory with Ferrari would elevate Hamilton’s career in a way that surpasses the mere number of titles. “He has nothing more to prove in another team,” Alesi said, adding, “But with Ferrari, that could change his life if his life is already that of a champion of champions. Winning with Ferrari will make him a hero forever.”

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari also creates an intriguing internal rivalry within the team. Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s young star and homegrown talent, will be Hamilton’s teammate. Leclerc has won the hearts of many fans due to his raw talent and promising performances. The competition between the two drivers will add an exciting dynamic to Ferrari’s 2025 campaign, with both aiming to lead the team to the top.

Ultimately, Alesi believes that a victory with Ferrari would elevate Hamilton to an unparalleled status, not only in Formula 1 but in the wider sporting world, making him a hero for generations to come.
