F1 NEWS: Ranking all-time F1 points as Lewis Hamilton increases record with Max Verstappen in third
The world of Formula 1 is home to some of the most skilled and dedicated drivers in motorsport. While many racers consider simply competing in an F1 Grand Prix as the pinnacle of their career, a select few have achieved the ultimate success: standing on the top step of the podium. As of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, an impressive 115 drivers out of the 778 who have started a GP have claimed victory.
However, achieving multiple wins is a feat reserved for the true legends of the sport. Only a third of the drivers who have won a GP have managed to rack up double-digit victories. The exclusive club of world drivers’ champions is even more select, with only 34 different drivers having claimed the title in the history of F1.
One driver who stands head and shoulders above the rest is Sir Lewis Hamilton. The 40-year-old British driver has rewritten the record books throughout his illustrious career, holding a plethora of records in F1. His most coveted achievement is his status as a seven-time world champion, a record he shares with the legendary Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton’s impressive resume also includes the record for most F1 wins, with an incredible 105 victories to his name. He surpassed Schumacher’s record of 91 Grand Prix wins at the Eifel Grand Prix in 2020, cementing his status as one of the greatest drivers in F1 history.
However, Hamilton’s dominance was interrupted by a difficult 2022 season, which saw his team, Mercedes, struggle with the new aerodynamic regulations. This led to a 945-day wait for a win, which Hamilton finally ended with his record-extending ninth British GP triumph at Silverstone.
As Hamilton continues to compete at the highest level, his records are being closely pursued by a new generation of drivers. Max Verstappen, the current world champion, has already moved clear of Sebastian Vettel in third place on the all-time wins list and is rapidly closing in on Hamilton’s record.
Fernando Alonso is the only other active driver in the top 10, with 32 wins to his name. The Aston Martin veteran is still waiting for his first win since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix and will be hoping to add to his tally in the coming seasons.
The world of F1 is constantly evolving, with new drivers and teams emerging to challenge the established order. However, the achievements of drivers like Hamilton, Schumacher, and Verstappen serve as a reminder of the incredible skill, dedication, and perseverance required to succeed at the highest level of motorsport.
