F1 Miami Grand Prix Sprint Race Drama: Verstappen Penalized, Final Results Shuffled
The 2025 Miami Grand Prix sprint race ended in dramatic fashion after the FIA handed out penalties to three drivers, significantly changing the final outcome of the second sprint event of the season.
Initially, McLaren’s Lando Norris crossed the line in first place, having dominated the race after an impressive start. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, followed closely in second, with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton rounding out the top three. Additionally, Ferrari reserve driver Oliver Bearman, who stepped in for Carlos Sainz, received a five-second penalty for an unsafe release during his pit stop.
These penalties dramatically altered the final standings. Several midfield drivers benefited from the reshuffling, moving up into the points-paying positions. The results highlighted how critical compliance with race regulations is, especially in tightly contested sprint events where every second counts.
Despite the off-track controversies, McLaren celebrated a dominant performance with a 1-2 finish, further establishing their resurgence in the 2025 season. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, secured valuable points for Ferrari, who continue their push for championship contention.
The Miami sprint race served as a reminder of Formula 1’s unpredictable nature, where race results are never truly settled until the stewards have reviewed all incidents.
