In a surprising turn of events, 18-year-old Italian Kimi Antonelli emerged as the fastest driver of the session, outpacing Hamilton’s replacement at Mercedes. New Red Bull driver Liam Lawson claimed the second spot, with Williams’ Alex Albon rounding out the top three. Hamilton, meanwhile, could only manage a fifth-place finish in the Ferrari, although it’s worth noting that teams are not prioritizing speed at this early stage of testing.
The session was not without its dramatic moments, as Lawson experienced a heart-stopping spin that narrowly avoided disaster. Fortunately, the young driver managed to regain control of his RB21 and avoid a potentially catastrophic collision with the barriers.
As the day drew to a close, all eyes turned to the afternoon session, which would see a number of other drivers make their 2025 debut. With two more days of testing scheduled for Thursday and Friday, teams will be eager to fine-tune their cars and drivers in preparation for the upcoming season.
