Fresh Lewis Hamilton radio message emerges that Skysports failed to broadcast
Lewis Hamilton’s frustrations boiled over during the Miami Grand Prix, as the seven-time world champion struggled to make an impact on the track. Despite his best efforts, Hamilton was left stuck behind slower cars, including Haas driver Esteban Ocon and Williams ace Carlos Sainz, ultimately crossing the finish line in a disappointing eighth place.
Hamilton’s weekend was further complicated by a team orders controversy with his Ferrari colleague Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver, who was on slower tyres, held up Hamilton for several laps, prompting a frustrated radio exchange between Hamilton and his race engineer Riccardo Adami.
On lap 26, Hamilton was at a loss to explain his lack of pace, asking Adami, “How is this pace? I can’t really go any quicker.” Adami reassured him that he was lapping faster than Leclerc, but Hamilton remained unimpressed, citing poor tyres and understeer.
As Ferrari deliberated over whether to swap Hamilton with Leclerc, the British driver’s frustration reached a boiling point. In a sarcastic remark, Hamilton told Adami and the Ferrari team to “take a tea break” while they made up their minds.
Despite his outburst, Hamilton refused to apologize, explaining that his frustration stemmed from a burning desire to be fighting higher up the field. “I’ve still got my fire in my belly, I could feel a bit of it really coming up there,” Hamilton said. “I’m not going to apologize for being a fighter. I’m not going to apologize for still wanting it.”
Hamilton also downplayed the significance of his radio outbursts, revealing that Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur had visited him in his dressing room after the race. “Fred came to my room,” Hamilton recalled. “I just put my hand on his shoulder and said: ‘Dude, calm down. Don’t be so sensitive’. I could have said way worse things on the radio.”
Hamilton’s frustration is a clear indication of the struggles Ferrari is facing this season. Despite having a talented driver lineup, the team has been unable to match the pace of its rivals, leaving Hamilton and Leclerc to fight for scraps. As the season wears on, Ferrari will need to find a way to unlock its potential and give its drivers a car capable of competing at the front of the field.
