Broncos Owner Sends WARNING to Chiefs for 2025 season
The Denver Broncos made major progress this season but remain in the shadow of the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite an eight-year playoff drought, Denver broke through under head coach Sean Payton and rookie quarterback Bo Nix, securing a wild-card spot with a dominant Week 18 victory over the Chiefs. However, Kansas City had already clinched a first-round bye and rested their starters, solidifying their ninth consecutive AFC West title.
Since Peyton Manning’s retirement, the Chiefs have ruled the AFC West, but Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner has set his sights on ending that streak in 2025.
“Our absolute goal next year is to win our division,” Penner stated, according to Aric DiLalla of Broncos.com.
Denver concluded a 10-7 season with a 31-7 playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. The Broncos were outclassed by the title-contending Bills, who dominated time of possession with over 41 minutes and amassed 471 yards at Orchard Park.
Penner expressed pride in the team’s growth but made it clear that a brief postseason appearance isn’t enough.
“The results this past Sunday weren’t what we hoped for or expected, but the experience our young team gained will be critical moving forward,” Penner said. “While we’re pleased with the progress and accomplishments this year, we’re far from satisfied. This offseason will be crucial for building toward our ultimate goal.”
Penner assured fans the organization is committed to building a championship-caliber team.
“Our main message to the fans is that we’re aiming high. We’ll do everything we can to continue improving and competing for championships,” he added.
Head coach Sean Payton echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to focus on the future.
“We’re not looking backward. We’re looking ahead, and it starts with the division,” Payton said.
Overcoming the Chiefs will be no small task. With Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, Kansas City has amassed 90 regular-season wins in seven seasons. Under the guidance of Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid, the Chiefs are on the brink of their seventh consecutive AFC Championship Game, needing a win over the Houston Texans this weekend to advance.
In addition to the Chiefs, the Broncos face the challenge of measuring up to other AFC contenders, including the Bills and Baltimore Ravens, to become a legitimate championship threat.
General manager George Paton acknowledged the uphill battle but expressed confidence in the organization’s approach.
“Our goal this offseason is to find that secret sauce,” Paton said. “We need another strong offseason and a solid plan, and I know we’ll deliver.”
As Denver prepares for what they hope will be a transformative offseason, the message is clear: the Broncos are no longer content with progress—they’re aiming for dominance in the AFC West and beyond.
