FIA Issues Lando Norris Disqualification Verdict After Austrian Grand Prix Scrutiny
The FIA has officially cleared McLaren driver Lando Norris of any wrongdoing following an in-depth technical inspection after his victory at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix.
Concerns were raised in the aftermath of the race over potential disqualification due to excessive plank and skid wear on Norris’ car—a violation that has previously resulted in harsh penalties. However, after standard post-race checks at the Red Bull Ring, the FIA confirmed that all components of Norris’ car were in full compliance with technical regulations.
Norris was among nine drivers whose plank and skid wear were examined, and the Brit can now fully celebrate his triumph, with his victory standing firm.
Disqualification fears were fueled by Sky Sports F1 pundit Anthony Davidson, who noted visible signs of excessive plank wear during the race. “This plume of dust coming out of Lando’s car, I saw it continuously through the race,” Davidson commented. “You can see all these scrape marks… If they check the plank wear at the end, I’ll be intrigued to see how they get on.”
Despite the speculation, the FIA’s verdict confirmed Norris had not breached any regulations, bringing relief to McLaren and their title-contending driver.
Norris Back on Top, Title Fight Heats Up
The win marks a crucial rebound for Norris after a disappointing Canadian Grand Prix, where a collision with teammate Oscar Piastri cost both drivers valuable points. With his Austrian GP win, Norris narrows the gap to Piastri in the championship standings to just 15 points, reigniting the intra-team title battle.
McLaren also celebrated a dominant one-two finish, with Piastri pushing hard in the closing laps but ultimately held back by traffic. The duo’s wheel-to-wheel action brought fans to their feet at the Red Bull Ring, highlighting McLaren’s resurgence in the 2025 title fight.
With the FIA’s verdict now in the rearview mirror, Lando Norris retains his Austrian Grand Prix win—and his title ambitions remain firmly on track.
