Hamilton Reveals Bizarre Austrian GP Restriction as FIA Confirm…read more

Lewis Hamilton has revealed a strange and unexpected restriction he faced during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, just moments after the FIA officially confirmed a punishment verdict against the seven-time world champion.

The Mercedes driver, who was already under scrutiny following an incident during the race, admitted post-race that he had been hit with what he described as a “bizarre” limitation imposed by race officials. While the exact details remain unclear, Hamilton hinted that the restriction affected his communication with the team and compromised key aspects of his race strategy.

“I’ve never experienced anything like it,” Hamilton said. “There were certain things we weren’t allowed to do, and it definitely caught us off guard. It made things a lot harder out there.”

Shortly after his comments, the FIA confirmed that Hamilton would receive a time penalty for his involvement in an earlier on-track clash, ruling that he was “predominantly to blame” for causing avoidable contact. The decision dealt another blow to Hamilton’s race result, further compounding a frustrating weekend for Mercedes.

Team principal Toto Wolff called the situation “deeply confusing” and criticized the lack of clarity around the restrictions. “We need answers,” he said. “You can’t compete at this level with sudden changes mid-race weekend.”

The punishment and odd restriction have sparked outrage and confusion among fans, with many demanding transparency from the FIA. As questions swirl, Hamilton and Mercedes will now regroup ahead of the next Grand Prix, hoping for a cleaner, controversy-free outing.
