Lando Norris delivered a sensational performance at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, snatching a surprise pole position after an early scare in qualifying nearly ended his session prematurely.
The McLaren driver encountered a setback during Q2, with what appeared to be a technical issue that forced him back into the pits. But in a dramatic turnaround, Norris stormed back onto the track in Q3 and delivered a blistering lap to secure the top spot on the grid.
“It was a close call,” Norris admitted. “We had some issues midway through, but the team did an incredible job getting me back out. That final lap was one of my best.”
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will join Norris on the front row, while Oscar Piastri ensured a strong result for McLaren by qualifying third. Championship leader Max Verstappen struggled to respond and was forced to settle for seventh after being caught behind yellow flags.
The pole marks a major momentum shift for McLaren and a statement from Norris as he emerges as a serious contender in the 2025 title fight.
With the grid now set and tension rising, all eyes are on race day as Norris looks to convert his pole into a stunning victory at Albert Park.
