Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team have confirmed that George Russell will compete in the British Grand Prix, following concerns over his health that emerged overnight.
The team released a statement early Sunday confirming that, after a precautionary medical examination, Russell has been declared fit to race by both Mercedes doctors and FIA officials. He had reported feeling slightly unwell, prompting medical checks as a safety measure.
“George underwent standard medical assessments this morning after experiencing minor symptoms. He has now been cleared to take part in today’s race,” the team’s statement read.
Russell addressed the situation publicly, thanking fans for their support and confirming his readiness:
“Not 100% overnight, but I’m feeling much better now and cleared to race. Can’t wait to get going at my home Grand Prix.”
Team boss Toto Wolff commended Russell’s attitude and composure, reaffirming the team’s full support for his participation.
The update puts to rest speculation about a possible withdrawal, with Russell set to line up near the front for what could be a pivotal race for Mercedes at Silverstone.
