Sir Jackie Stewart issue DEFIANT statement over Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari…read more

In a significant development for the 2025 Formula 1 season, Sir Jackie Stewart has cautioned against underestimating both Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari, following Hamilton’s high-profile transition from Mercedes to the iconic Italian team. This move fulfills Hamilton’s long-held dream of driving for Ferrari and has generated widespread excitement within the motorsport community.

Hamilton’s decision to join Ferrari comes at a pivotal moment. The team has recently shown signs of resurgence after a prolonged period of underperformance. Reflecting on this, Stewart remarked, “Now Ferrari seems to be on the road to recovery, so I imagine Hamilton was extremely impressed by this, especially when he had the chance to visit the factory. The effect Ferrari has is different: no brand in the history of Formula 1 has had such continuity for so long.”

However, Stewart also expressed reservations about Hamilton’s move, particularly concerning his age. He noted, “Certainly, for Lewis, it’s more complicated now that he’s 40. It’s one thing to join Ferrari when you’re 25 or 30, and another to do it when you’re 40. For me, the real difficulty will be just that. Also, I think that at some point, he’ll have to retire, which makes the move even more unusual. However, it seems to me that he isn’t yet thinking about retirement.”

Despite these concerns, Stewart acknowledged Hamilton’s enduring talent and motivation. He stated, “Additionally, I feel compelled to add that he still has the ability and talent to race in this sport. I think he demonstrated that this year at Silverstone when he won in a somewhat unexpected way. Plus, the Italian fans are special, and I believe this has motivated Hamilton to try this experience.”

This isn’t the first time Stewart has commented on Hamilton’s career trajectory. In previous discussions, he suggested that Hamilton might have lost some of his competitive edge, stating, “Lewis no longer has that hunger.”  Hamilton responded to such critiques by emphasizing the importance of inspiring future generations rather than focusing on negative commentary. He remarked, “There are people who are very short-minded that make the comments that they do, not knowing the work that has been done in the background.”

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is not just a personal milestone but also a significant event for the sport. Ferrari, with its storied history and passionate fanbase, offers a unique platform for Hamilton to further cement his legacy. The partnership has the potential to reshape the competitive landscape of Formula 1, especially if Ferrari’s recent improvements continue.

The 2025 season will undoubtedly be a critical one for both Hamilton and Ferrari. Observers and fans alike will be keen to see how this collaboration unfolds and whether it can bring championship glory back to Maranello. As Stewart aptly put it, underestimating this combination could be a mistake, given the determination and talent involved.

In conclusion, while there are valid questions about the challenges Hamilton may face at this stage in his career and the pressures inherent in driving for Ferrari, his track record of success and unwavering ambition suggest that he remains a formidable competitor. The upcoming season promises to be one of the most intriguing in recent memory, with Hamilton’s move adding a compelling narrative to the Formula 1 championship chase.
