Jos Verstappen Dismisses Rumors of Max’s Potential Move to Mercedes

The rumors surrounding Max Verstappen’s future with Red Bull Racing have been circulating for quite some time. The four-time Formula 1 world champion has been with Red Bull since 2016 and has achieved all his titles with the team. However, with Red Bull’s dominance easing up in 2024, speculation has been rife that Verstappen might be looking to jump ship.

One of the teams heavily linked with Verstappen’s signature is Mercedes. The team’s boss, Toto Wolff, had previously expressed interest in signing Verstappen, and rumors have been circulating about potential meetings between the two.

However, Jos Verstappen, Max’s father and former F1 driver, has moved to quash these rumors. Responding to comments made by Renger van der Zande and Jack Plooij on Ziggo Sport, Jos Verstappen took to X to simply state: “Jack Jack Jack, you are talking nonsense.”

Van der Zande had suggested that Verstappen and Wolff might have had secret meetings, citing the coincidence of their planes landing and taking off from the same airport at similar times. Plooij had further fueled the speculation by claiming that Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull was likely to be broken, and that he would be driving for Mercedes in 2026.

Jos Verstappen’s response has poured cold water on these rumors, and it seems that Max Verstappen is committed to seeing out his contract with Red Bull, which runs until 2028. However, with the new regulations set to come into effect in 2026, it’s likely that the rumor mill will continue to churn out speculation about Verstappen’s future.
