Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has shared his strong views on the future of the British Grand Prix, reaffirming Silverstone’s crucial role on the sport’s expanding global calendar. The 60-year-old Italian motorsport chief made these remarks during his visit to the UK ahead of the much-anticipated 2025 British Grand Prix, which serves as the 12th round of this season’s championship.
Speaking at a media event ahead of the race weekend, Domenicali praised the extraordinary passion of British fans, emphasizing that their love for the sport stands out globally. “The way British fans embrace Formula 1 is truly unmatched,” he said. “When you witness events like the Silverstone Grand Prix or Goodwood Festival of Speed, the energy and passion for motorsport are absolutely unique to this country. I always tell fans and stakeholders—if you want to understand what racing passion really is, you must come to the UK.”
Domenicali also revealed that the 2025 edition of the British Grand Prix is set to break attendance records, expecting as many as 500,000 fans over the race weekend. “All the signs point to a record-breaking crowd,” he added. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and share the extraordinary enthusiasm that defines this event.”
In 2024, Formula 1 secured the future of the British Grand Prix by signing a long-term extension with Silverstone, ensuring its place on the F1 calendar through to 2034. The deal marked a major commitment to keeping the historic venue at the heart of the sport.
Despite the increasing popularity of Formula 1 in the UK, Domenicali firmly ruled out the possibility of adding a second British race to the calendar. While the United States has seen a rise in the number of races, with venues like Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas joining the lineup, the F1 CEO made it clear that Silverstone remains the only viable host in the UK.
“I cannot imagine Formula 1 without a race in the United Kingdom,” Domenicali said. “But I also don’t see any other venue within the UK that could deliver what Silverstone does. Silverstone has everything needed to continue hosting for many years, maybe even forever.”
He further noted that while the circuit has not yet expressed interest in extending the new deal beyond 2034, he would be open to such discussions. “If Silverstone wants to go beyond the current agreement, I’m ready to talk,” he affirmed.
When questioned about the idea of holding an additional race in the UK, possibly in London, Domenicali responded decisively: “No, I don’t think so. Actually, when I say ‘I don’t think,’ I mean ‘No.’”
With this firm stance, Domenicali has left no doubt that Silverstone remains the spiritual and logistical home of Formula 1 in the UK, and for the foreseeable future, fans can expect it to remain the nation’s sole F1 destination.
