The 2025 British Grand Prix delivered a thrilling and chaotic race at Silverstone, with wet weather playing a major role in the action-packed event. Rainfall led to two safety car deployments and contributed to five drivers failing to finish the race. Despite the challenges, Lando Norris emerged victorious, clinching his first-ever home win and becoming the 13th British driver to win the British Grand Prix in the history of Formula 1.
McLaren dominated the race, with Norris crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 1:30.690. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, originally finished second on the road but was handed a 10-second time penalty due to a safety car infringement. However, the gap to third place was large enough that Piastri retained his P2 spot, finishing 6.812 seconds behind Norris and securing a McLaren one-two.
The standout story of the race was Nico Hulkenberg, who finally claimed his first-ever Formula 1 podium after 239 race starts. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly came home in sixth, followed by Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin. Williams’ Alex Albon put in a strong drive to take eighth, just ahead of Aston Martin teammate Fernando Alonso. Mercedes’ George Russell rounded out the top ten.
Oliver Bearman finished just outside the points in 11th for Haas, ahead of Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Esteban Ocon (Haas). Charles Leclerc had a frustrating afternoon, ending up 14th in the second Ferrari.
Yuki Tsunoda, driving for Red Bull, finished a lap down in 15th after receiving a 10-second penalty for a collision with Ollie Bearman.
Five drivers failed to see the checkered flag. Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) and Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) both retired due to mechanical issues, while Gabriel Bortoleto (Kick Sauber) and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) were also forced to retire mid-race. Franco Colapinto (Alpine) did not even complete a timed lap.
Oscar Piastri recorded the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:29.337 on lap 51. However, due to new regulations introduced for the 2025 season, no additional point was awarded for the fastest lap. This rule change was brought in to discourage drivers from making late pit stops purely to chase the bonus point, a tactic that had led to controversy in past seasons.
