Jean Todt, the former Ferrari boss, has expressed his bewilderment over the lack of communication from the F1 team since his departure as FIA president. Todt, who played a key role in Ferrari’s dominance in Formula 1 during the Michael Schumacher era, served as the team’s leader from 1993. Under his stewardship, Ferrari became the powerhouse of F1, achieving an unprecedented period of success.
Todt transitioned to the role of FIA president in 2009, succeeding Max Mosley, and was re-elected twice before stepping down in December 2021. Since then, the Frenchman has kept a relatively low profile. However, Todt has now spoken out about his surprise at the lack of outreach from Ferrari, despite his pivotal role in the team’s history. Since stepping away from the FIA, Todt has not received any contact from the Scuderia, not even after Fred Vasseur took over as team principal.
“I’ve spoken with some members of the team, but I’ve had no contact from them since I left the FIA,” Todt shared with La Repubblica. “I must admit I’m perplexed, given the immense time and energy I dedicated to Ferrari and the tremendous results we achieved together.”
Reflecting on his time with Ferrari, Todt highlighted the team’s transformation under his leadership. When he first joined Ferrari in 1993, the team was in disarray, lacking the facilities and infrastructure needed for success. Ferrari’s headquarters were in poor condition, with a rundown wind tunnel, and the design department was located far from the main base in England. Despite these challenges, Todt emphasized the gradual progress made by the team.
“Little by little, we built something truly special. Alone, I couldn’t have done it. My strength was in forming a great team and maintaining it over the years. Together, we created a dream team,” Todt recalled. Under his guidance, Ferrari won 14 World Championships, including six consecutive titles with Schumacher, making it the most successful period in the team’s history.
