Red Bull Boss Horner Stunned by ‘Impossible’ Verstappen After Latest Heroics
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner was left in awe after Max Verstappen’s latest performance, calling it “impossible” and “something from another planet” as the Dutch driver delivered yet another dominant display in the ongoing Formula 1 season.
Verstappen, who has been in imperious form throughout the 2025 campaign, pulled off a remarkable victory at the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday, defying expectations and overcoming tricky conditions to secure his seventh win in eight races. The reigning world champion’s performance drew high praise from fans, pundits, and especially from within his own garage.
“It was just impossible, what he did out there,” Horner said in the post-race press conference. “You watch the data, you look at the tire wear, the weather conditions — and you think, ‘Okay, this is going to be tight.’ But Max made it look easy. It’s genuinely one of the best drives I’ve ever witnessed. He was in a class of his own.”
The race saw a chaotic opening with rain beginning to fall just moments before the lights went out. As several drivers struggled for grip and made early pit stops, Verstappen opted to stay out on slicks longer than anyone else, managing his tires with precision and maintaining a comfortable lead while others faltered.
“What impressed me most was his feel for the car and track. He radioed in and said, ‘It’s coming to me, just give me two more laps,’ and then he pulled out three seconds on the field. He sees grip where others don’t — it’s like he’s hardwired into the track,” Horner added.
This latest win pushes Verstappen even further ahead in the Drivers’ Championship, where he now leads teammate Sergio Pérez by 62 points. Red Bull, too, continues to dominate the Constructors’ standings with a 130-point lead over their closest rivals, Mercedes.
While Verstappen’s skill has never been in question, Horner emphasized that what the 27-year-old is achieving now is pushing the boundaries of what’s considered possible in Formula 1.
“You get generational talents in this sport — Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton — and Max is very much in that echelon. What’s frightening is that he’s still improving. He’s relentless. You think you’ve seen the best of him, and then he does something like today,” Horner said.
The team principal also credited Red Bull’s technical team, led by legendary designer Adrian Newey, for giving Verstappen a car capable of matching his extraordinary abilities. “The RB21 is a phenomenal machine, but in the hands of Max, it’s simply unbeatable on most days,” Horner noted.
Rival teams and drivers have echoed similar sentiments, with McLaren’s Lando Norris describing Verstappen as “untouchable” in his current form. “You do everything right and still end up 10 seconds behind,” Norris commented. “That says it all.”
With the season approaching its halfway point, talk of another championship for Verstappen is already picking up steam. If he maintains his current form, he could seal the title with several races to spare — a feat that would further cement his legacy as one of the sport’s greats.
As the F1 circus moves next to Miami, all eyes will once again be on the Flying Dutchman. And if recent races are anything to go by, the only real challenge for Verstappen may be finding new ways to surprise even his own team boss.
