Carlos Sainz, who joined Williams ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 season, was particularly impressed by the team’s motivation and enthusiasm despite a challenging end to the previous season. Before the winter break, Sainz had to make a decision about his F1 future after it was confirmed that Lewis Hamilton would join Ferrari in a multi-year deal from 2025. As a result, Sainz looked for new opportunities, ultimately finding a place at Williams.

Sainz’s first experience with Williams took place during a filming day and the Abu Dhabi post-season test. Despite a difficult season for the team, marked by a series of crashes involving drivers Franco Colapinto and Alex Albon, Sainz’s initial impressions of the team were overwhelmingly positive. Reflecting on his first days with Williams, Sainz noted that the team’s motivation and work ethic left a lasting impression.

He explained that he found the team’s dedication especially remarkable given the tough circumstances they had been through. Williams had endured a string of significant crashes, including two major incidents involving Colapinto in Brazil and Las Vegas, as well as Albon’s crash in Brazil. Yet, despite these setbacks, the team remained highly motivated and focused. Sainz was impressed by how, even at the end of a long and demanding 2024 season, the team remained full of energy and enthusiasm.

The Abu Dhabi test, which Sainz participated in after joining Williams, was a crucial moment for the team to gain valuable data and experience. Sainz appreciated the thorough preparation leading up to the test, particularly the productive filming day on Monday. This allowed him to hit the ground running on Tuesday and maximize the testing opportunities on track. He recognized that the tire test in Abu Dhabi, following a packed triple-header schedule, was physically exhausting for everyone. Nonetheless, the Williams staff maintained a positive attitude, with smiles on their faces and a strong desire to contribute to the team’s success.

Sainz also highlighted the collective spirit at Williams, with team members eager to collaborate and make the test as effective as possible. For him, this enthusiasm was incredibly motivating. He felt supported and encouraged by the team’s efforts, which reinforced his belief in the team’s potential. Sainz appreciated the dedication of everyone involved, noting that the experience gave him confidence heading into the winter break, knowing that the entire team was pushing hard to improve.

In conclusion, Sainz’s first impression of Williams was one of positivity and motivation. Despite the challenges the team faced in 2024, their resilience and commitment left a strong impression on the Spanish driver, setting a positive tone as he prepared to begin his journey with the team in 2025.
