Liam Lawson Breaks Silence After Red Bull Departure, Thanks Fans for Support
Liam Lawson has finally spoken out after Red Bull announced that he would no longer be driving for the team for the remainder of the 2025 Formula 1 season. The 23-year-old New Zealander will be replaced by Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull, starting at the Japanese Grand Prix next weekend.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Lawson expressed his gratitude to the team and his fans for their support during his time at Red Bull. “Being a @redbullracing driver has been my dream since I was a kid, it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life,” he said.
Lawson’s departure from Red Bull comes after a dismal start to the season, where he failed to score a single point at the opening two race weekends. The young driver finished outside the top 10 in Melbourne and Shanghai, as well as the top eight at the sprint race in China.
Despite his struggles, Lawson remains optimistic about his future in F1. He will return to sister team, Racing Bulls, and drive alongside Isack Hadjar. In his Instagram post, Lawson thanked Visa Cash App Racing Bulls for the warm welcome and expressed his excitement to get back to work.
Red Bull’s decision to replace Lawson with Tsunoda is a clear indication of their desire to close the 42-point gap to McLaren in the constructors’ standings. With Max Verstappen winning the drivers’ title last year, the energy drink team is eager to reclaim the World Constructors’ title.
Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, explained that the decision to replace Lawson was a purely sporting one. “It has been difficult to see Liam struggle with the RB21 at the first two races, and as a result, we have collectively taken the decision to make an early switch,” Horner said.
Horner also acknowledged that there is still a lot of work to be done with the RB21, and Tsunoda’s experience will be invaluable in helping to develop the current car. The Japanese driver will make his senior Red Bull debut at the Japanese Grand Prix, racing in front of his home crowd for the first time.
