Piero Ferrari, the son of Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari, has expressed no concerns about Lewis Hamilton’s ability as the British driver begins a new chapter in his career with Scuderia Ferrari. Hamilton, who is preparing for his first season with Ferrari after a challenging 2024, enters this transition with high hopes despite the struggles of his last year at Mercedes.

The 2024 season was one of mixed emotions for Hamilton. Although he had some standout moments, including a victory at the British Grand Prix after a 945-day winless streak and another win in Belgium under controversial circumstances (after teammate George Russell was disqualified), the season overall was difficult. Hamilton’s struggles were evident, especially in qualifying, where he was often outpaced by Russell, losing the head-to-head battle 19-5. Despite his challenges in qualifying, Hamilton’s racecraft allowed him to recover on Sundays and demonstrate his impressive pace.

This led to speculation from some pundits that Hamilton might be past his prime. However, Piero Ferrari is not concerned about the 40-year-old driver’s abilities, particularly as he transitions to Ferrari. “He is fit, both physically and mentally. Age doesn’t seem to be an issue,” Piero said in an interview with Autosprint. “He accepted the challenge with enormous enthusiasm and is confident in his abilities,” he added, reinforcing that Hamilton’s mindset remains strong heading into this new phase of his career.

Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari has already begun, with the British driver spending his first week with the team in mid-January. During his time at Ferrari’s Maranello factory, Hamilton met with new engineers, teammates, and posed for photos that have quickly become iconic in F1 history. His family also joined him during the visit, with his father, Anthony Hamilton, mother Carmen, and stepmother Linda all present. This was a significant moment for Hamilton, as he took part in a Fiorano test session, marking the beginning of his journey with Ferrari.

During the visit, Hamilton was met with enthusiastic support from Ferrari fans, known as the Tifosi. Thousands gathered at the track’s edges to cheer on the new recruit. After his test session, Hamilton made a point to walk over and wave to the fans, acknowledging their warm reception. Piero Ferrari noted that this display of support surprised Hamilton’s father. “The whole extended family was there,” Piero said, recalling his conversation with Anthony Hamilton. “He, too, was surprised by the warmth of those who had waited for Lewis at the edge of the track.”

With a warm welcome from fans and the Ferrari team, Hamilton’s transition to his new team seems off to a promising start, and both he and his family are excited about the journey ahead.
