Red Bull boss hints at NEW opportunity for Sergio Perez in 2025…….read more

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has hinted that there may be future opportunities for Sergio Perez in Formula 1 after his exit from the team following a challenging 2024 season. Perez, who has struggled throughout the year, will take a “sabbatical” from the sport and will not race in 2025. New Zealander Liam Lawson is set to take over Perez’s full-time seat at Red Bull for the upcoming season.

Perez’s performance in 2024 has been underwhelming. He failed to secure a podium finish after the Chinese Grand Prix in April and didn’t claim any race victories since his triumph at the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Meanwhile, teammate Max Verstappen has been dominant, securing 26 race wins during this time with the same machinery, highlighting the stark contrast between the two drivers. Despite these struggles, Perez managed to remain with Red Bull until the season’s end, but it was confirmed that he would be axed for the 2025 season.

With no immediate options available for Perez on the current F1 grid, he will temporarily step away from racing. However, Marko has suggested that this might not mark the end of Perez’s F1 career. While a return to Red Bull seems highly unlikely, there are still potential paths for the Mexican driver. Marko pointed out that Perez could be considered for other opportunities in the future. “There are still all kinds of possibilities for him in the future,” Marko said to Sport.de. He acknowledged that Perez is likely still hopeful for a Formula 1 return, though with all seats already filled for the upcoming season, a comeback would have to wait until later.

The Red Bull advisor added that Perez’s extensive experience in the sport could make him a valuable asset for teams in need of a seasoned driver. Perez’s F1 career spans 281 race starts, with 36 podium finishes and six grand prix victories. His experience could be an attractive quality for other teams looking to bolster their lineup. Marko emphasized that being on the sidelines for a year doesn’t necessarily rule out new opportunities for Perez in the future.

In fact, the 2026 season could present new possibilities. One potential avenue for Perez could be with the Cadillac team, which is set to join the F1 grid in 2026. The American team has already hinted that they would be seeking an experienced driver to partner with their young American talent, making Perez a potential candidate for the role.

Although Perez’s immediate future in Formula 1 is uncertain, Marko’s comments suggest that there could be new opportunities ahead for the experienced driver, whether with Red Bull or elsewhere in the sport.
