The Belgian cyclist reportedly collided with a postal vehicle after the driver abruptly opened the door, breaking his bicycle in half.
Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) was taken to hospital today after colliding with a vehicle while training, Belgian media reported.
“Remco was transported to the Erasme hospital in Anderlecht [on the outskirts of Brussels]. We are waiting to see how he is doing”, declared the Belgian cyclist’s father, Patrick Evenepoel, to the Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad.
The newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws indicates that the Olympic long-distance and time trial champion in Paris2024 was unable to avoid colliding with a postal vehicle, after the postman abruptly opened the door.
In both Belgian newspapers, photographs are published, taken from social media, in which you can see the golden bike of the winner of the Vuelta2022 and third place in the Tour2024 left in the middle and also Evenepoel sitting on a stretcher next to an ambulance.
One of the biggest names in world cycling today, Evenepoel, 24, suffered a fall this season in the Tour of the Basque Country, in which he fractured his right collarbone and shoulder blade, but returned to the road in time to climb the podium in his debut in the Tour of France, winning two Olympic golds and also the world time trial title.
